History

Somerset County is home to a number of historic sites, including the Wallace House in Somerville, which served as General George Washington’s winter headquarters during the Revolutionary War. The Duke Farms in Hillsborough offers a historic mansion and beautiful gardens, providing insights into the lifestyle of the American elite in the early 20th century. The Van Horne House in Bridgewater also served as a military headquarters during the Revolutionary War and is now a museum dedicated to local history.
